Replace New (Not Nested)
Overview
Replace New 1 (Not Nested) duplicates only the selected component document (top-level), then replaces the selected occurrence with the newly created copy. Nested referenced components are reused and are not duplicated.
The index for each new file is assigned automatically to ensure uniqueness; for details on how file names and indexes are managed, see File Names.
This command is ideal when you want a one-off variant of an assembly/part but want shared subcomponents (fittings, common parts, etc.) to stay common across multiple assemblies.
How It Works
- Prompts you to select the component occurrence you want to replace.
- Creates a new copy of the selected component document in the same folder as the original, with a new numeric index.
- Replaces the selected occurrence with the new copied file.
- All nested components are reused (no nested duplication).
Usage Instructions
- Open the assembly containing the component you want to duplicate.
- Click Replace New 1 in the Replace panel.
- Select the component occurrence to be duplicated/replaced.
- Review the assembly to confirm the selected occurrence now references the new file.
Troubleshooting
- No new file created: Check file permissions in the original component’s folder.
- Copy fails: Ensure the source file is not locked or read-only.
- Unexpected indexing: Verify your naming convention (see File Names).
Examples
Duplicate a duct route: Create a new top-level duct route for minor modifications, while reusing all nested fittings.
Create a new fitting variant: Replace a single occurrence with a uniquely indexed copy while keeping nested content shared.
